SUMMERY
Basically, our project is about making drinks explode using only mint mentos. We would in this case use only one tube of mint mentos for each fizzy drink to conduct a fair experiment. The amount of fizzy drink in each bottle will also remain the same which is 1.5 liters.
INTRODUCTION
Our project title is fizzy drink explosion. The purpose of us doing this project is to test out when we have just eaten mentos, which type of fizzy drink would be the most unsuitable as we would not want our stomachs to explode. It may lead to death. In this project, we would be using one tube of mint mentos for each 1.5 liters fizzy drink.
HYPOTHESIS
The aim of this experiment is to find out which fizzy drink takes the shortest time to stop exploding. we think that coca cola will take the shortest time to stop exploding. To find out if our predictions are right, our group will test it out with different type of fizzy drink.
VARIABLES AND CONSTANTS
Variables : The type of fizzy drink
Constants : The number of mentos placed into one bottle
The type of mentos used
The volume of each fizzy drink
The base where the fizzy drink is placed
APPARATUS AND MATERIALS
Apparatus : Stopwatch
Materials : 100 Plus
Coca Cola
7 UP
F&N (grape)
Sparkling Fuji Apple
5 tube of mint mentos
3 pieces of recycled paper
apron
PROCEDURE
- Firstly, one person would place the fizzy drink on the flat grass while another would roll up a foolscap paper into a cylinder and make sure the opening is big enough to allow the mentos to enter and exit the paper.
- Secondly, the person holding onto the bottle would slowly open the fizzy drink bottle cap.
- Thirdly, the person holding onto the foolscap paper with the mentos inside would then put all the mentos into the fizzy drink.
- The moment it starts exploding, the timer would then start timing and when it stops exploding, the timer must stop.
- Fifth, record the time taken on a piece of foolscap paper and leave in in three significant figures to get a more accurate answer.
- Repeat steps 1 - 5 for da remaining bottles of fizzy drink.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
CONCLUSION
In the end of the day, 7-UP took the shortest time to stop exploding instead of coca cola and 100 Plus took the longest time to stop exploding. We found out that to make the drink loose its fizziness faster, depends a lot on the amount of sugar and carbon dioxide in the drink. Therefore, Coca Colah is not the drink that takes the shortest time to stop exploding.
DURING THE EXPERIMENT.........
Alison and Dazelaine
Alison and Dazelaine getting all prepared
Alison feeling excited to see the respond
Shubing and dazelaine
- The Coca Cola exploded after Shubing pour the mentos into the Coca Cola bottle
- Both of them were shocked
- Dazelaine did not escape fast enough so the Coca Cola spilled onto her.
WHO DID WHAT and WHERE WE DO ???
- Dazelaine : Help us to open the bottle and hold on to it to prevent it from dropping.
- Shubing : Took turns with Alison to place the mentos into the fizzy drink bottle.
- Alison : Took turns with Shubing to place the mentos into the fizzy drink bottle.
- Germaine : Took video
- Charissa :Timer and recorded down the timing
- Jolyn : Took pictures
- We did our investigative project in the park.
